Palmer started for his 50,000 km (31,068.56 miles) journey, which will go through 50 countries and five continents, on June 2 in Lucerne, Switzerland. The solartaxi, which can travel at a maximum speed of 90 km/h (55 mph) on its three wheels, is powered 100 percent by solar energy obtained through the vehicle, which includes a trailer on the back with solar cells.

Though the 35-year-old schoolteacher's motivation was not to make the vehicle commercially viable, he does want people tp think about their energy use and look at sustainable ways of transportation.
